Council continues preparations for Storm Callum

Fingal County Council is continuing its preparations for Storm Callum which is now expected to hit the Dublin region at midnight and last until 09:00 tomorrow morning.

Council Crews spent the morning filling sandbags and deploying them to areas along the coastline which are vulnerable to flooding. Sandbags are also being distributed from the Council’s depots at Watery Lane in Swords; Coolmine in Dublin 15 and Fancourt in Balbriggan until 5pm.

The Council has activated its Crisis Management Team and Severe Weather Alert Team in response to the Status Orange Severe Weather Warning issued by Met Eireann and crews have been put on stand-by to mobilise early tomorrow morning if required. Volunteers attached to Fingal County Council’s Emergency Management Unit have also been placed on stand-by. The Crisis Management Team had a conference call at 13:00 today, which was chaired by Chief Executive Paul Reid, and will convene again at 18:30 this evening.

Fingal County Council will monitor the situation as Storm Callum passes through and will post updates as required through our usual communications channels including the Fingal Alerts App and the Alerts section on our website www.fingal.ie as well as our Facebook and @fingalcoco Twitter accounts.

Members of the public can submit reports of issues in their area as a result of Storm Callum to www.fixyourstreet.ie or by calling 01-8905000. These reports will be logged and assessed.

Citizens are requested to exercise extreme caution between the hours of 00:00 and 09:00 tomorrow and to be mindful of the threat posed along the coast during this time as well the danger from fallen trees and other debris caused by winds which are expected to gust to between 110 and 130kmh
