Portrane the Brook Beach is a gently sloping sandy beach, on the seaward side of the Portrane Peninsula. Brook beach expands north to become the Burrow beach where sandy dunes are located. Portrane, the Brook Beach is classified as achieving Excellent Water Quality in 2022, based on the assessment of bacteriological results for the period 2019 to 2022. Portrane, the Brook Beach had a Good Water Quality rating in 2021 and 2020, and a Poor Water Quality rating in 2019. Annual water quality ratings are generally calculated using monitoring results over a four-year period and are assessed against stringent bacterial limits to protect bather health.
